Travel Soccer

Starting in 3rd grade, players may enter the Bedford’s travel soccer program or continue to play intramural soccer.

Bedford’s travel soccer teams play in the Bay Area Youth Soccer (BAYS) league. Travel teams hold two practices during the week (Girls – Monday & Thursday; Boys – Tuesday & Friday) and have one game on Saturday. Half of a team’s Saturday games will be HOME in Bedford, half will be AWAY in other towns (usually five different towns).

Registration information for travel soccer can be found at the Bedford Recreation Department.

Travel seasons run ten consecutive Saturdays from the first date through the last.

Most often:

  • Fall Season games begin the first Saturday after Labor Day (end is usually second weekend of Nov)
  • Spring Season games begin the second Saturday of April  (end is usually second weekend of Jun)

Games are scheduled on holiday and vacation weekends.

Dates and times for the current BAYS season may be accessed here: BAYS Game Dates & Times

Bedford teams, schedules, and standings for the current season may be found here on the BAYS web site.

FAQ

Are there try-outs for travel soccer?

No, there are no try-outs for travel soccer. Teams are filled on a first-come-first-serve basis. After the initial sign-up quota is filled, players may be added to a waitlist. If there is a sufficient number of players waitlisted, an additional team may be created to accommodate them.

How are team rosters created?

In third and fourth grade, balanced teams are created using coaches reviews of players.

After 4th grade, ranked teams are created using coaches reviews and a professional coach evaluation session. The evaluation session is held in the Spring.

How can I get reimbursed for coaches training costs?

The Bedford Recreation Department will reimburse coaches for the cost of courses taken. If you want to be reimbursed, please contact the Rec. Dept before registering to let them know you’re planning on taking a course. After you have taken the course, bring your receipt and certificate to the Rec. Dept. Lastly, the Bedford Soccer Committee tracks our coaches’ progress, so if you take a course for the first time or updated your training level by completing an additional course, please let us know.

How many players play on the field at once?

3rd, 4th Grade play – 7v7.

5th, 6th Grade play – 9v9.

7th, 8th Grade play – 11v11.

Where are travel away games?

Away games occur in other towns within the Bays system. Though team placement considers distance between towns, there may be games as far as Foxboro. The actual away game locations for your child’s team will be available after team placement.
